New York He played four years as a  shortstop for the Yankees before Gregorius signed with the Phillies in free agency and has been a member of the club since 2020.

But in his last two seasons in the lead, he has struggled leading up to Thursday's release.

During the COVID-shortened 60-game  2020 MLB season, Gregorius hit a .284/.339/.488 slashline with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.

In 2021, he posted his OPS of . 639 in his 103 games, and not even a fraction of that feat could be replicated.

His performance has dropped further this season. Gregorius has appeared in his 63 games and is batting .210/.263/.304, only he has one home run and he has 19 RBIs.

His performance on the record did not improve after activation, but he spent some time at IL before returning in June.

The Phillies decided it was time to end the Didi Gregorius experiment. This is because Jean Segura's long-awaited return from his 60th IL has failed in each of the last two seasons

With the Phillies trying to close the gap to the Mets and Braves in his NL East,  currently trailing him by 10 games and 6.5 games respectively,

Segura returned to the starting second base position and Bryson made his NBA debut. Stott is expected to switch to short. stop.
