Napoli are preparing to sign Verona striker Giovanni Simeone as Luciano Spalletti says the Serie A club are entering a "new cycle" following the departures of a host of big names.

Spalletti's side threatened a first Scudetto since Diego Maradona before falling to 3rd place last season, but have since seen Kalidou Koulibaly, Mertens & Lorenzo Insigne leave.

Reports suggest Napoli will counter losses against Mertens and Insigne - the two top scorers in the club's history - by bringing in Verona striker Simeone on his first loan deal.

Simeone - son of Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone - scored 17 goals in Serie A last season, trailing only Ciro Immobile (27), Dusan Vlahovic (24) and Lautaro Martinez (21).

The Argentinian has averaged a goal every 157 minutes throughout the campaign, converting 55% of his chances into a goal.

Before Napoli travel to Verona for Tuesday's Serie A opener (AEST), Spalletti revealed the striker's arrival is imminent as he pledges to rebuild the Partenopei's squad.

"If all goes well, of course he will come, we are waiting for him, if you stay also say hello to him!" Spalletti said amid reports that Simeone is having a medical with Napoli.

"We'll do our best right away, and I'm sure we'll make our fans fall in love again, just like what happened last year.

"Now we are talking about a Napoli that no longer sees the most important players in its ranks, and we are talking about players for a new cycle.

Of course, you need a bit of support from the city and society, the hardest part is the dynamics of the dressing rooms.

"They've changed without [Faouzi] Ghoulam, [David] Ospina, Mertens, and Insigne. In addition to game dynamics,

There's character dynamics, and you have to recreate those. I'm not afraid of any of those. whatever."
